This alarming figure underscores the intensifying humanitarian catastrophe in what is now <strong>the world\u2019s largest child displacement crisis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rising Humanitarian Needs Amid Ongoing Conflict<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Since fighting broke out in April 2023 between the <strong>Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)<\/strong> and the <strong>Rapid Support Forces (RSF)<\/strong>, violence, disease, and displacement have surged. With the <strong>rainy season approaching in May<\/strong>, UNICEF warns that delivering aid will become even more difficult, especially for children already suffering from <strong>malnutrition, disease, and trauma<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWith the rainy season around the corner, children who are already reeling from malnutrition and disease will be harder to reach,\u201d said <strong>UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell<\/strong>. \u201cWe must act now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key Figures and Trends<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>15 million children<\/strong> need humanitarian assistance (up from 7.8 million in 2023).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>30 million people<\/strong> in total require aid in Sudan this year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>12.4 million displaced<\/strong>, including <strong>millions of children<\/strong>, nearly a third under the age of five.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>90% of children<\/strong> are currently out of school.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Famine confirmed<\/strong> in 10 areas, with more at risk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over <strong>49,000 cholera<\/strong> and <strong>11,000 dengue fever<\/strong> cases reported last year, mostly impacting children and mothers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grave violations against children\u2014including <strong>killings, abductions, and attacks on schools and hospitals<\/strong>\u2014have increased tenfold and now span more than half of Sudan\u2019s 18 states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>UNICEF\u2019s Appeal and Response<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>UNICEF is urgently calling for <strong>$1 billion<\/strong> to fund its operations in Sudan for 2025. That\u2019s <strong>just 26 cents per day per person<\/strong>, yet only <strong>$266.6 million<\/strong> is currently available\u2014most of which was carried over from 2024. A mere <strong>$12 million<\/strong> in new funding has been received this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these constraints, <strong>UNICEF\u2019s 2024 impact included<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supporting <strong>2.7 million children and caregivers<\/strong> with psychosocial, educational, and protection services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing <strong>safe drinking water<\/strong> to nearly <strong>10 million people<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Screening <strong>6.7 million children<\/strong> for malnutrition and treating <strong>422,000<\/strong> with lifesaving support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Access Barriers and Bureaucratic Delays<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Conflict intensity, <strong>bureaucratic impediments<\/strong>, and access restrictions imposed by both <strong>government forces and armed groups<\/strong> have severely hampered aid delivery. With worsening security and limited humanitarian corridors, many vulnerable populations remain beyond reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Plea for Global Solidarity<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>UNICEF is urging the <strong>international community to act swiftly and decisively<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cSudan is the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world today, but it is not getting the world\u2019s attention,\u201d said Russell.<br>\u201cWe cannot abandon the children of Sudan. We have the expertise and the resolve to scale up our support, but we need access and sustained funding.
