Even in wealthier nations, the rise of <strong>gig work and digital transitions<\/strong> has led to precarious, low-security jobs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Informal employment<\/strong> remains dominant in many middle- and low-income countries, offering little to no safety nets like healthcare, pensions, or job protections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over <strong>2.8 billion people<\/strong> live on less than <strong>$6.85 per day<\/strong>, meaning even minor financial shocks can trigger a return to extreme poverty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Impact of Climate Change and Conflict<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Climate disasters and armed conflicts<\/strong> are undermining local economies, deepening inequality, and further destabilizing job markets\u2014especially in the developing world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Collapse of Trust in Institutions and Society<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The report paints a bleak picture of <strong>waning trust globally<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>57% of the world&#8217;s population<\/strong> now expresses <strong>low confidence in their governments<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Among young people\u2014those born after 2000\u2014<strong>trust levels are even lower<\/strong>, raising serious concerns about future civic engagement and political stability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Only 30% of people<\/strong> in surveyed countries believe that most others can be trusted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The report also links the rise of <strong>misinformation and disinformation<\/strong>, exacerbated by <strong>social media algorithms<\/strong>, to further division, radicalization, and the erosion of public trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe spread of misinformation, facilitated by digital technologies, is reinforcing divisions and fuelling distrust,\u201d the report warns.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Call for Bold Policy Reforms<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To reverse these dangerous trends, the UN report calls for <strong>ambitious and equity-driven policy actions<\/strong>, emphasizing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Investment in public services<\/strong> such as education, healthcare, housing, and social protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strengthening inclusive, accountable institutions<\/strong> to rebuild public trust.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Redistributing wealth and power<\/strong>, reducing the extreme concentration of resources at the top of societies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese investments are not optional\u2014they are essential for promoting resilience and inclusive growth,\u201d the report stresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Collective Response to Global Challenges<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the <strong>Second World Summit for Social Development<\/strong> in Doha this November, the UN underscores the urgency of <strong>collective action<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a foreword to the report, <strong>UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/strong> called for decisive leadership:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe global challenges we face demand collective solutions.
