A new United Nations report warns that economic uncertainty, conflict, and climate shocks<\/strong> are plunging billions of people into deeper insecurity, fueling a collapse of trust in governments and institutions worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the World Social Report 2025<\/strong>, launched Thursday, fear of job loss and financial instability<\/strong> is no longer confined to poorer regions\u2014it’s now a global phenomenon impacting every corner of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite historic gains in education, healthcare, and technology<\/strong>, many people today feel worse off than previous generations<\/strong>, with nearly 60%<\/strong> of surveyed individuals saying they are \u201cstruggling\u201d and another 12%<\/strong> describing themselves as \u201csuffering.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global Instability: A New Normal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The report highlights a growing sense of vulnerability across all income levels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Even in high-income countries, gig work and the digital economy<\/strong> are creating jobs that offer flexibility at the cost of security, rights, and long-term stability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Informal employment<\/strong> dominates in many low- and middle-income countries, leaving millions trapped in low-wage, precarious work without social protections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • More than 2.8 billion people<\/strong> live on less than $6.85 per day<\/strong>, where any minor economic shock can force families back into extreme poverty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The challenges are made worse by the increasing impact of climate change<\/strong>, armed conflicts, and widening inequality<\/strong>, particularly across developing regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Fewer than 30% of people<\/strong> believe that most others can be trusted, eroding social cohesion and making collective action even harder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The UN report also highlights the toxic role of misinformation<\/strong> spread through digital platforms, where algorithm-driven echo chambers<\/strong> amplify division and radicalize opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
