Gang-related violence is crippling food production in vital agricultural areas such as <strong>Kenscoff and Artibonite<\/strong>, often referred to as the nation\u2019s breadbasket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the best efforts of humanitarian agencies, only <strong>38% of the targeted population<\/strong> has been reached, due to violent unrest, logistical challenges, and <strong>severe underfunding<\/strong>. The 2025 UN humanitarian appeal for Haiti remains the <strong>least funded globally<\/strong>, with just over <strong>2% of the $425 million<\/strong> required received so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe are doing what we can, wherever and whenever possible,\u201d said UN Spokesperson St\u00e9phane Dujarric.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MYANMAR: Civilian Suffering and Aid Access Blocked by Conflict<\/strong><br>Nearly four months after a devastating earthquake, <strong>Myanmar\u2019s conflict<\/strong> between the military and opposition forces is intensifying, with civilians increasingly caught in the crossfire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>11 July<\/strong>, an airstrike hit a monastery sheltering displaced civilians in <strong>Sagaing Region<\/strong>, killing <strong>22 people<\/strong> and injuring over 50. Another airstrike reportedly struck a displacement camp in <strong>North Shan State<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese incidents are part of a broader pattern,\u201d warned the UN, noting that <strong>one in three people in Myanmar now faces acute hunger<\/strong>, worsened by <strong>monsoon flooding<\/strong> and <strong>limited humanitarian access<\/strong>. The UN has called on all parties to respect <strong>international humanitarian law<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BELARUS: UN Experts Demand Probe into Political Prisoner Deaths<\/strong><br>In Belarus, UN human rights experts are urging an independent investigation into the deaths of several political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case of <strong>Valiantsin Shtermer<\/strong>, 61, who died in May while incarcerated at \u0160klou Correctional Colony, has drawn international concern. Shtermer, imprisoned for criticizing Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, reportedly received <strong>inadequate medical care<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, <strong>Vitold Ashurak<\/strong>, a 50-year-old activist linked to the <strong>Belarusian National Front<\/strong>, died shortly after solitary confinement in the same facility.
